Continue readingIn the back of my mind I had a feeling I’d heard of Pearl and Dean… but I couldn’t quite remember when. Maybe they were secret agents. Anyway, the main thing was we’d formed a gang. I supposed that meant I would have to share some of my adventures with Pearl from now on. That night I asked my Dad if there were such a place in Scotland as Castle Milk. I told him what the class had said about Pearl being a princess. He said laughingly that Pearl might look a bit like a fairytale princess – with her beautiful long red tresses – but he didn’t think she was one. Then he said Castlemilk (it’s actually all one word) is a tough part of Glasgow. That sounded like just the place Pearl would come from – for sure, no one ever tries to pull her red hair any more. And I suppose it is quite beautiful.
